Even though the deadline for pre-registration for the upcoming OLA Conference has passed, you can still register for preconferences at the same price as before.

sponsored by the Public Library Divsion calle "GRACIOUS SPACE". It's not feng shui but a new way to relate in both our professional and personal lives.

"No Man is An Island". Every one of us works in a group or a community of one type or another on a daily basis whether it is professional or personal interactions. How we relate to each other makes a difference in how we each perceive our environment and ultimately our satisfaction and happiness. Have you ever been frustrated by how the group process worked (or didn't work)?  Did a meeting seem like an endless litany of problems being presented or participants saying "that will never work"?  Does this every get to you until you just want to run away to Tahiti? If so, then this preconference is for you and your colleagues. Gracious Space is a means to deal with such negativity and naysayers. Join us for an intense day and you will learn how to:

·        Find an alternative to solving problems by focusing on the positive and expanding on what CAN work rather than trying to solve what cannot.

·        Make conflict work FOR you

·        View conflict as a unifying force rather than  divisive

·        Build diversity in your decision making by "inviting the stranger" 

·        Build trust

·        Listen deeply 

·        Create a community that never stops learning

 

Based on conversations with people who have attended this training in other venues, we strongly encourage several representatives from the same institution to attend together as much of what you will learn you will want to keep discussing long after the session ends. Implementing what you learn in your home institution will also be more effective if there is more than one of you who received the training.
