Hello, Diedre,

The idea is a good one. Nevada is also doing the same thing with a
library license plate that will be announced this April during the
state's legislative day. The money will be used to support scholarships
for training new MLS degreed librarians and for summer reading.

There is a minimum number of plates that have to be purchased in order
for the plate to continue being made. As I recall that number for this
particular plate is 1,000. If the number drops below that minumum it is
discontinued. There are a number of Nevada plates like the one for Lake
Tahoe which bring in a lot of money. Others speciality plates less so.

Subject: [Libs-Or] License plates for libraries

I just opened the new LJ and found on pg 13 that NY is helping fund
their statewide summer reading program with a license plate. If you are
registered on line you can see the picture at http://tinyurl.com/48hxu .
The short piece reads: "License Your Reading The New York State
Legislature has created a "Love Your Library" license plate to benefit
the New York State Library's Statewide Summer Reading Program. The
additional $25 per plate will support summer reading at local libraries.
The Department of Motor Vehicles offered two designs, and voters at the
state library web site chose the one on top, by a 2-1 margin."

I don't know that groups make a lot of money from these kinds of plates
but I thought it was a fun and creative idea.
