DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Collection
Development Librarian, coordinates unit activities, including all
interlibrary loan activity, planning for and maintaining the archives housed
at the library and providing backup for all acquisitions tasks. Specific
duties: Helps manage and develop Library and Media Services student worker
program, handles all aspects of interlibrary loan, serves as a back up for
all tasks related to the acquisition of library materials, manages daily

QUALIFICATIONS: Three years of experience as a Library Technician or an

Previous experience supervising student workers or volunteers. Accurate
keyboarding skills. Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet
software, such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Proficiency with email
and Web browsing applications. Previous education or experience in
digitization projects, resource sharing or managing archives. Demonstrated
ability to manage multiple tasks and to complete detailed work accurately
and efficiently with minimal supervision.

PREFERRED: Experience with managing office operations. Experience with

The Science Library includes two branch collections: the Math Library and
the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology Library. Together, these three
libraries include close to 200,000 volumes and electronic access to
approximately 18,000 journal titles. Library staff members serve research
and instructional needs of graduate and undergraduate degree programs in
biology, chemistry, computer and information science, environmental science,
environmental studies, human physiology, geological sciences, mathematics
and physics. 
 
Duties: 
Provides reference and research service in person, electronically and by
telephone. Contributes to an active instruction program; designs and teaches
sessions for students, faculty and staff. Serves as a subject selector,
developing collections in digital and print formats for the principle
subject areas assigned. Develops strong liaison relationships with faculty
in assigned subject areas and performs outreach to the user community.
Creates and maintains print and digital tools to assist users in finding and
managing information. Reports to the Head of the Science Library.
 
Qualifications:
Required: ALA-accredited MLIS degree (must be granted by August 31, 2005);
experience or coursework in providing reference and research assistance in
an academic setting; experience or coursework in the design and delivery of
library instruction, and demonstrated ability to create instructional
materials in print and electronic modes; ability to work both independently,
and with others, in a demanding and rapidly changing environment;

The Oregon State Library is recruiting to fill the position of Program
Manager for Talking Book and Braille Services. The position is located in
Salem, Oregon. The Talking Book and Braille Services program provides a wide
variety of reading materials in recorded or Braille formats for an estimated
50,000 Oregonians that have limited vision or other disabilities which
prevent them from being able to use conventional books or other printed
materials. Currently, about 6,700 Oregonians are registered borrowers and
about 400 institutions receive deposit collections of materials. In the
2005-2007 biennium the Talking Book and Braille Services program will have a
staff totaling 9.5 FTE employees. The program budget is approximately $1.4
million for the biennium. In the last fiscal year circulation totaled over
345,000 books and other materials. The staff is organized as a team that is
afforded a high degree of autonomy in carrying out their day to day work. 

TO QUALIFY

State Library Board of Trustees.

Manages the performance measurement and evaluates the quality of services
provided through development of measures, review of reports and statistical
data, and conferences with reporting staff; coordinates activities with
other agencies or divisions thereof in areas of mutual concern in order to
ensure compliance with established policies, objectives, program priorities
and applicable laws, rules and regulations; reviews information from users
of agency services and interested community and professional groups in order
to determine what improvements are needed. 

Performs supervisory functions by participating in the interviewing,
selecting and training of new staff; by managing individual employee
performance through accepted performance management principles and
practices; by managing team performance through accepted team leadership,
performance management and staff development principles and practices; by
hearing and resolving employee grievances; and by recommending or initiating
personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, or disciplinary action in
order to ensure adequate and competent staffing for the program. 

Provides policy guidance by facilitating analysis of all pertinent issues
and information regarding the impact of a proposed policy on the provision
of services to target populations; directs the process of determining the
resources necessary to implement such policy in order to ensure the

Keizer, Oregon Reading Connection. The individual chosen for this task will

excited by the rapidly developing and evolving digital library of the 21st
century.  The Digital Initiatives Librarian is a member of the Digital
Initiatives Team in the Department of Digital Services/Collections of the
Washington State University Libraries.  Digital initiatives are funded
locally or by numerous grants, donations, and endowments, and may include
faculty and staff from the Libraries and other departments within WSU or
other institutions.

The Library currently manages or coordinates projects that take advantage of
a wide assortment of tools including OCLC/DiMeMa ContentdmT multimedia
server, MySQL, Ixiasoft TextMLT native XML database, Helix Universal Server
video/sound streaming server, Docutek EResT electronic reserves management
software, LizardTech Mr.SID Image Server, LizardTech GeoExpress
MrSID/JPEG2000 encoder, UIUC OAI Harvester (Service provider software,
Visual Basic version), Ex-Libris MetaLib metasearch tool, Ex-Libris SFX Open
URL link resolver, various modules of the Innovative Interfaces, Inc.,
integrated library system,  and NesstarT for managing social sciences data.
The Library is currently evaluating which software it will utilize in its
institutional repository initiatives.

Current projects and programs include participation in the Greater Western
Library Alliance Waters of the West digitization project, an IMLS funded
program to develop a union catalog of archival finding aids that use EAD
encoding (the service is hosted in the Department); building the Wallis and
Marilyn Kimble Northwest History Database; building and supporting the World
Civilization Image Repository that supports the WSU General Education
curriculum; streaming oral histories; integrating MetaLib and SFX into the
University portal and into course management systems; the University
electronic theses and dissertations program; and ongoing locally funded
digitization projects that take advantage of our rich special collections.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports to the Digital Initiatives Team Leader.  The Digital Initiatives
Librarian will be responsible for technical oversight, coordination, and
collaboration on digitizing projects using Contentdm and supporting
applications software, coordinating electronic reserve software and
activities, working in the team on planning and coordinating digital
archiving of digitized and born-digital materials, working in the team on
coordination, management, and outreach activities associated with an
institutional repository, working with University portal developers and
users, and working with users of course management systems to integrate
library resources.  To remain in touch with the problems and needs of
library users, the librarian in this position will also provide reference
services approximately 4 hours per week in one of the six libraries on the
Pullman campus.
