  SCCTP MARC21 Holdings Format/Serials Format
Course description
This SCCTP workshop introduces trainees to the MARC21 Format for Holdings Data (MFHD) and provides the basic principles of creating holdings records and publication patterns. All materials are based on the MARC21 Format for Holdings data and on the ANSI/NISO Z39.71 holdings standard. This two-day workshop focuses on creating both coded and freetext holdings records, recording serial publication patterns, and on the details for the MARC21 format itself. The instructions and exercises are system-neutral, but the course will include some discussion of local system implementation if time permits. It is optional but recommended that trainees bring with them their copies of the MARC 21 for Holdings Data and Z39.71 documentation to refer to during class discussions.

Prerequisites
Familiarity with searching on Connexion
Course description
In February 2006, OCLC retired the Union List System and replaced it with a Local Holdings Maintenance (LHM) capability in the Connexion Browser. The new LHM feature allows a library to efficiently create and maintain holdings for all formats of library materials--serials, books, sound recordings, etc.--and adheres to the national standards for holdings, MARC Holdings (MFHD) and Z39.71. This hands-on workshop gives a detailed overview of the new LHM and explores the many options and methods now available to add, maintain, or delete a library's holdings on WorldCat.
