Undecided about attending the SLA NorthWest Regional Conference in October 2006? Here's a sample of what we have planned for you*
If you want to learn more about how to manage information and content within your organization, you might consider attending "Implementing a Content Management Solution - Do Your Homework!" This session will give you the basics to prepare for or consider a content management solution.
Questions to be addressed during the presentation are:
How much content?
What are its ultimate uses?
What are the handling processes?
Who are the people involved in content management?
What is the lifecycle of content and taxonomies?
Who should have access?
How will the content be delivered?
"Evangelizing Content Management - How to Succeed when Organizational Change is Necessary" will provide specific recommendations and practical ideas for evangelizing content management and helping pave the way for the organizational change that is often necessary for successful content management projects.
In "Taxonomies 101" participants will learn taxonomy basics, how it can be used to organize and find information, and some methodologies and standards for constructing taxonomies.
Issues covered will include:
Learn techniques for involving users in the development of taxonomies
Getting buy-in and acceptance
How to test the effectiveness for the taxonomy
How to promote an understanding of the value of a taxonomy
Attendees will participate in practical, hands-on exercises to gain experience in creating taxonomies and other controlled vocabulary. This conference session will run for the full day on Friday, October 6.
Other presentations discussing taxonomies are:
"Taking the Taxing out of Taxonomy"
"Taxonomies for Metadata and Information Architecture"
"Taxonomy as Content Outline, Site Map and Search Aid"
