Student Assistant for Preparation and Encoding of Finding Aids

The University Archives, a department of the Oregon State University Libraries, seeks a highly skilled student assistant to prepare and encode finding aids to archival collections. This student assistant will encode existing finding aids following the Encoded Archival Description (EAD) standard, the XML data structure for archival finding aids, as well as prepare (and encode) new finding aids.
The initial position is 10 hours per week for about 6 months (approximately 250 total hours) to begin in September 2007 or as soon as the position is filled. There is a possibility for extension of the position beyond 6 months.
Required qualifications: Completion of an undergraduate degree; Familiarity with primary sources; Ability to analyze, synthesize, and write clearly; Attention to detail; Currently enrolled as a student (not required to be an OSU student).
Preferred qualifications: Experience or familiarity with EAD, XML, or other data structure standard.Experience or familiarity with cataloging archival or library materials.

Western Oregon University's Library and Media Services seeks to fill two fixed-term full-time adjunct faculty librarian positions for the 2007-08 academic year.
1) (Recruitment # S0727) - Reference and Instruction Librarian (fixed term, non-tenure track, September 4, 2007 to June 15, 2008)
2) (Recruitment # S0728) - Reference Librarian (September 4 to December 8, 2007) with an emphasis on serving evenings and weekends (Sunday through Thursday).
Both positions require a MLS degree from an ALA-accredited institution, and experience providing library instruction and reference services.

DUTIES: The Kettle Falls Library Manager is a full-time highly responsible management and front line public service job involving planning, directing, and supervising patron services for a community library facility. The position will include coordinating and overseeing outreach to area schools, programming for a variety of ages, collection development, staff training, community involvement, participation on a website development committee, and public speaking. The position also manages the small branches in the towns of Hunters and Northport, and the library station in Onion Creek.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean articulates vision and strategic direction for the unit; assesses and implements strategies for continuous improvement in LMS services, collections, access, technology, and facilities; develops and effectively manages budget and resources; and pursues funding and development opportunities.

Full-time salaried position $36-$42,000 annually plus benefits package.
The Library Director is the executive and administrative officer of the Library District and serves as secretary and consultant to the Library Board as well as the District's financial officer. The Director carries out policies adopted by the Board, is responsible for employment and direction of staff, for the care and maintenance of the building and equipment, for the efficiency of the service to the public, for the selection of library materials, and for the operation of the District under financial conditions set forth in the annual budget. The Director manages reference, reader's advisory, and interlibrary loan services to patrons. This position is appointed and evaluated by the five-person, elected Library District Board of Directors.
This is a highly visible position in a rural and growing community. The service population is 11,700 people who reside in the communities of Veneta.
