Oregon Arbor Week is the first full week in April. Now is great time
educate the public about the value of urban forests and bring the
community together. Interest generated at the library can help increase
participation in Arbor Week tree plantings and activities as well as
foster community involvement. It might also make for some interesting
reading (see reading lists below).

What you can do:

Send me an email. I'm interested in your Arbor Week plans. Let me know
how you commemorate Arbor Week, or tell me about new plans you come up
with. You can reach me at:

- Make a display case about trees and Arbor Week. Display pinecones or
a round of wood (people could count the rings). Perhaps you have
historic photographs from the timber boom.

- Support local Arbor Week projects. You can find out about local tree
walks, talks, and plantings by following the "Calender" link at
http://www.arborday.org/arborday/oregon/.

- Give out free stuff. I will be happy to mail you Arbor Week stickers
and posters as well as brochures on tree planting and care.

- Have a story hour for kids. Check out the Oregon Forestry Education
Program (OFEP) Children's Booklist at
http://www.cof.orst.edu/cof/extended/ofep/teacherscorner.shtml

- Distribute the Arbor Week reading list (below). Also check out these
links to reading lists online:
