Are you working in a library that's trying to figure out how to connect
to teens who only seem to want to use your Internet stations? Are you
curious about how to get a video game program up and running in your
library? Are you trying to figure out the difference between Flickr and
If your answer is "Yes!" to any of these questions, OYAN's OLA
preconference on Wednesday, April 18 is for you! "Teens and Today's
Technology" is a full day preconference that will be chock full of
information and hands-on opportunities; you'll learn how to use a
variety of new technologies to attract and maintain a teen audience.
The program for the day is as follows:
* Linda Braun (Executive Consultant, Librarians and Educators
Online): Linda will spend the morning half of the session demonstrating
Web 2.0 technology such as podcasting and blogging, as well as sharing
ideas on how libraries can use these tools to better serve their teen
* Caleb Tucker- Raymond (Multnomah County Library, L-Net
Coordinator): After lunch, Caleb will share findings on teens'
information-seeking behaviors and communication styles online, including
how they use the state's virtual reference service, L-Net. There will
be open discussion on what strategies librarians can use to interact
with teens online.
* Andrew Cherbas (Outreach Librarian, Corvallis-Benton County
Public Library): For the last section of the day, Andrew will share how
the Corvallis-Benton County Public Library created a wildly successful
teen video gaming program. He'll demonstrate different video game
systems, and attendees will have time to try out their own Dance Dance
