Each is a full-day pre-conference scheduled for Friday, June 22, 2007 and will be at the Washington Convention Center (http://www.dcconvention.com/).
ILL 101: Interlibrary Loan for New Practitioners (EVENT CODE RU5)
Resource Sharing is a vital component of library services that requires a specialized skill set. The objective of this preconference is to provide an overview of basic skills and processes used in resource sharing. It focuses on the importance of resource sharing to the library community, and the codes and standards that govern it. This preconference will go in-depth into the borrowing and lending aspects of resource sharing, including various techniques and technologies used. For more information, including rates, please visit <http://tinyurl.com/y4trz9>. For questions, contact Karen Janke (kjanke at iupui.edu), ILL 101 Preconference Chair.
Yin & Yang: Bringing Balance to Resource Sharing (EVENT CODE RU4)
Amid the varied demands within resource sharing, how can libraries attain balanced service? This full day pre-conference for advanced practitioners includes discussions on consortia, committed lending, and unmediated/patron-initiated borrowing. The presentations examine the ideal perspective versus the current perspective (what is happening) for end users and resource-sharing practitioners. During a catered lunch, there will be breakout sessions on special issues followed by a panel discussion summarizing the luncheon discussions and "hot topics" among the day's presentations. For more information, including rates and the agenda, please visit <http://tinyurl.com/ugfed>. For questions, contact Julie Harwell (jharwell at ebsco.com), Yin & Yang Preconference Chair.
