CONSER Standard Record for Serials

Description Online:
http://www.bcr.org/training/online/weblive/wl-conser.html

Shrinking budgets, and cataloging costs which don't, have forced library
technical services departments to provide access to an increasing number
of library resources with fewer available staff. Over a year's work by
members of CONSER (the Cooperative Online Serials Program) has resulted
in simplifying the process of serials cataloging. The CONSER "standard
record" was developed to focus cataloging efforts on providing, for
serials publications, those record elements necessary to help library
users find, identify, select and obtain the resources they need and
want.

New CONSER cataloging guidelines for creating a standard record were
implemented on June 1, 2007. This workshop provides an overview of these
new guidelines and practice in applying them.

This workshop consists of two modules. Each module is a 1.5 hour to 2
hour live Web presentation. Practice and readings will be provided for
participants to complete on their own.

Who Should Attend:
The workshop is designed for catalogers who have experience with CONSER
serials cataloging practice, or who have taken BCR's SCCTP Basic Serials
Cataloging workshop
