Hello Portland area librarians and library workers,
Do you see library work as political or do you want a way to bring your
politics into your library work? Do you want to use your library talent to
assist other progressive causes in the area? Do you want to swap skills with
peers and meet other Portland radical librarians and library workers? If so
then please join us at the first Portland Radical Reference Local Collective
meeting!
Radical Reference is a collective of volunteer library workers who believe
in social justice and equality. We support activist communities, progressive
organizations, and independent journalists by providing professional
research support, education and access to information. We work in a
collaborative virtual setting and are dedicated to information activism to
foster a more egalitarian society.
It's important to note that while reference is included in the title, the
group is so much broader than reference. Past initiatives have included:
outreach to communities, skill sharing, teaching workshops, suggesting
changes to Library of Congress Subject Headings, and much more. The group is
what we make it, and can grow and change depending on our and Portland's
needs.
WHAT: 1st meeting of Portland Radical Reference Local Collective
WHERE: Red and Black Cafe, 400 SE 12th Ave. and Oak (
http://www.redandblackcafe.com/)
WHEN: Wednesday, August 20th at 7pm
If you are interested in participating but can't make it to the meeting,
please email: RadRefPDX at gmail.com so we can keep you in the loop for future
events.

Lana and Maggie
