Description and Duties

The City of Stayton is seeking a dynamic and experienced Library
Director to supervise staff and operations of its state of the art
Library.  Stayton, Oregon (pop.7765) is a vibrant community in a
picturesque rural setting, but only 15 min. from the Salem metro area.
Within easy driving distance of both the Cascade Mountains and Pacific
beaches.  The position reports directly to the City Administrator and
exercises supervision over 5 FTE support staff positions.

 

The successful candidate will have a passion, and strategic vision for
library services.  In particular, the ideal candidate will possess:

*	Excellent people, political, public relations, marketing,
organization, technology, and oral and written communication skills;
*	Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work
collaboratively with others, including the city council, library board,
staff and patrons;
*	Proven ability to create and lead a participative workplace
environment with a cohesive team that promotes and sustains a productive
workplace and excellent patron service;
*	Thorough knowledge of current and emerging information
technologies in public libraries and library trends and innovations;
*	Active participation in professional library associations and
community organizations;
*	Several years of successful senior-level experience in overall
library management including all services, staff and finances;
*	Thorough knowledge of library administration and management
techniques, including:

i.  Knowledge of budgeting and accounting practices;

                  ii. The ability to prepare and present accurate and
informative statistical and                               technical
reports;

iii. The ability to develop and manage convenient, accessible and
cost-effective facilities and services that promote and support the
organization's strategic direction;

                  iv. Excellent knowledge of literature, modern and
classic;

                  v.  The ability to prepare and administer grants for
the library.

Required qualifications:

*	Equivalent to completion of an ALA accredited Master's of
Library Science program and over four years professional experience
including a direct working relationship with a library board.
*	Willingness to work outside normal working hours and travel on
occasion.

 

The position offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience,
starting range $4306 to $5825/mo.  DOQ plus a comprehensive benefit
package, after six mos. retirement eligible.
