Central Library Director

Multnomah County Library in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a dynamic, service-oriented individual to direct the operations of the Central Library for this nationally recognized library system. The Central Library Director is responsible for directing, overseeing, and participating in the development of the Central Library's vision, goals, and objectives in alignment with the Library Department's vision. This position will work with other senior managers to coordinate and participate in the development of the Library Department's goals and work plan. It will also assign work and mentor four Central management team employees, who supervise various work units at the Central Library, and one administrative assistant. The Central Library Director also supervises the development and administration of the Central Library's budget, which includes forecasting funds needed for staffing, equipment, and materials; monitoring and approving expenditures; and implementing mid-year adjustments, if necessary. 
This position requires demonstrated leadership and management experience in librarianship typically gained through at least 3 years of senior management/administrative experience in a multi-branch library system, a central library, and/or experience in managing a major division within a large library system. Experience working in a unionized environment is preferred. A Master's degree in library and information science from an accredited college or university.

Library Automated Systems Manager

LINCC is re-opening its search for a software automation manager of the shared library computer system. The working atmosphere between the LINCC library members is very collaborative and friendly and the expertise and customer service ethic of the Library Network staff is highly valued. 
LINCC libraries circulate over 6.2 million items a year on their classic Dynix system, but are just beginning a migration to the new SirsiDynix Symphony product (estimated migration date Dec 16, 2008). Experience with any of the "second generation" library automation products, library system migrations or development and maintenance of a web-site/portal for a consortium of libraries would be of value to us. 
This is a professional/supervisory position requiring excellent communication skills, proven supervisory experience, and library automation system software experience. Desirable candidates will possess extensive library experience and 5 or more years directly managing an integrated library computer system. Maintain and update a methods library of relevant general literature using EndNote software; work with the methods team on efficient electronic dissemination methods, and serve as the primary point of contact responsible for updates and posting of these files monthly on the SRC secure web site. Keep EPC staff apprised of recent literature pertaining to systematic reviews and research methodology. Assist with administrative tasks for the secure web site; assist group administrators at other EPCs with adding new users, posting documents, etc. Maintain an up-to-date contact list for EPC librarians and promote use of the Librarian-s Discussion Group on the secure Web site.
Required Qualifications: Masters degree in Library Science and three years research experience required. Experience working in a medical research environment preferred. Desirable candidates will have strong technological skills; understand medical terminology; possess knowledge of search protocols for bibliographic databases such as Medline, the Ovid Evidence-based databases, and other subject-specific databases; and, the Cochrane Library. Familiarity with a variety of international Web sites on pharmaco-epidemiology, evidence-based medicine (EBM), regulatory agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), clinical trial registries, and technology assessment is also desirable.

This is a federal grant-funded position through January 2009 that will help connect the Cornelius Library with Spanish-speaking families in the Cornelius community, through outreach and services targeted to their needs. This 30-hour per week position (0.75FTE) will coordinate a new outreach program which will provide direct service to library patrons, publicize the library, aid in collection development and library programming, prepare reports, and work with the local community to build library services for the Spanish-speaking community. Previous experience to include public service and training in a library science program and/or experience working in a library. Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
