AURORA, Colo. - BCR and the Nevada State Library and Archives are
pleased to announce a partnership to develop a five-year digital action
plan to guide the development of Nevada's statewide digital collections.
Daphne DeLeon, Nevada state librarian noted, "The partnership between
BCR Digital & Preservation Services (DPS), the Nevada State Library and
Archives (NSLA) and the Statewide Digital Advisory Committee (SDAC) will
help us meet one of the goals in NSLA's LSTA Five-year Plan. Together we
will be working with representatives from libraries and other cultural
heritage organizations allowing us to move forward on '...sharing
responsibility to preserve, protect and make the state's unique heritage
available'."
"BCR is pleased to be involved in this important project that will set
the direction of digital initiatives in Nevada for the next five years,"
commented Brenda Bailey-Hainer, BCR president and CEO. BCR team members
have extensive experience in building statewide digital collaboratives,
including the Collaborative Digitization Program, now BCR's CDP, which
originated in Colorado and now provides access to collections in 11
states.
"The ultimate goal is to make original materials, including writings and
artifacts, currently spread far and wide throughout the libraries,
archives, museums and university collections of Nevada, available in a
virtual environment for everyone from K-12 student to scholars and
researchers to discover," stated Karen Starr, NSLA Assistant
Administrator.
The project runs through June 2009, and includes activities designed to
define the priorities and tactical strategies to be used to implement
the five-year plan. Participant groups will be comprised of primary
stakeholders, including the libraries, cultural heritage institutions,
state and local governments, tribes and other content owners, as well as
users of the collections.
