Records Count
As of July 29, 2009 Oregon Health Go Local has:
· 614 Incomplete Records
· 2,504 Approved Records
· 35 Returned Records (currently under revision)
That makes a grand total of 3,153 records!
New additions to this count include recently imported records from the Jackson County Medical Society <http://jcmsdirectory.org/default.asp> , the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Examiners <http://www.oregon.gov/OBNE/index.shtml> , and data being generated by our diligent volunteers. While this data isn’t all “live” yet, we are working to get it up and ready as soon as we can. To find Naturopathic clinics in your area simply select “naturopaths” when searching for services. If you’re looking for services in Jackson County, be sure to click it on the map. Come back in a few months and see how these lists have grown!

The Launch Party
Working on project like Oregon Health Go Local is filled with many challenges and rewards. One of our biggest rewards was having the opportunity to publicly share and celebrate project accomplishments at our launch party held in early May. A crowd of roughly seventy people including a number of project volunteers attended the event. It was nice to connect with the folks who helped bring Oregon Health Go Local to fruition. We were fortunate to have a number of distinguished speakers. Don Lindberg, M.D., Director of the National Library of Medicine; Neil Rambo, Acting Director of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine PNW Region (NN/LM PNR); Gail Kouame, Consumer Health Coordinator NN/LM PNR; Yvonne Williams, Oregon State Library Board of Trustees Representative and Chris Shaffer, OHSU Library Director all shared thoughts and told stories about Oregon Health Go Local. Emily Ford, Oregon Health Go Local’s Project Director provided a short demonstration of the new resource. Tasty food and beverages were provided compliments of the Oregon Health Sciences Libraries Association <http://www.ohsu.edu/library/ohsla/> . Overall, the event was a fun way to revel in the projects early success. It is our hope that as the project grows and evolves, we will have continued success and cause for further celebrations.

Where We’re Going
July 31st finds Oregon Health Go Local at the end of its grant period. We’ve had such a productive year as our records count and all the connections we’ve made throughout the state have shown. Oregon Health Go Local will become a resource that the OHSU Library, community partners and volunteers will continue to support and keep up to date.
Emily Ford, Project Director for Oregon Health Go Local is transitioning into a new position at the OHSU Library. Her title has changed to Reference Librarian, and she will begin providing reference services to the OHSU community and the public with consumer health questions. In addition, she will assist with the Health Information by Mail <http://www.ohsu.edu/xd/education/library/research-assistance/health-information-by-mail.cfm> program and will serve as library liaison to various departments and programs at OHSU. In addition, she will continue working on Oregon Health Go Local.
Anne Hepburn, Student Assistant for Oregon Health Go Local will remain working on Oregon Health Go Local and with the OHSU Library until the end of November, when she graduates from Emporia State University with a Masters in Library Science.
Please continue to contact us at golocal at ohsu.edu with any of your questions regarding Oregon Health Go Local.
Reflections
By Dolores Judkins, OHSU Library, Head, Instruction, Research & Outreach
In 2004 NLM announced the development of MedlinePlus Go Local <http://www.medlineplus.gov/golocal> and called for proposals to become a Go Local site. I was very excited about this project and sent in a proposal that was accepted. Unfortunately, a grant proposal to LSTA was denied, and we had to set aside our hopes of becoming one of the first Go Local sites.
The idea sat simmering until in 2007 Todd Hannon took up the project. This time the LSTA grant proposal was accepted and additional funds were granted through the NLM. We were extremely lucky that Emily Ford applied for the position of project director, as her enthusiasm and energy convinced others that this was a valuable project. We were also lucky that we had early supporters in 211info <http://www.211info.org/> , Emporia’s SLIM program <http://slim.emporia.edu/> , the Oregon Health Sciences Libraries Association <http://www.ohsu.edu/library/ohsla/> , and the Baker <http://www.bakerlib.org/> , Corvallis <http://library.ci.corvallis.or.us/> , Multnomah <http://www.multcolib.org/> and Pendleton <http://www.pendleton.plinkit.org/> libraries. Emily’s enthusiasm for the project also brought in many volunteers who helped make the dream a reality.
The funding for the project is now over, but with the support of the OHSU Library, and the continuing work of Emily and volunteers throughout the state, the project will continue. Todd and Emily, along with all the volunteers, have made Oregon Health Go Local a vital resource in Oregon.
