As Oregon Reads 2009 comes to an end this month, many Oregonians are asking "What is the Oregon Reads title for 2010?"
As you know, there are no future plans for another statewide community reading program. Oregon Reads was a one time project of the Oregon Library Association to celebrate the sesquicentennial in local libraries across the state. Oregon Reads served as an opportunity for libraries to gain experience conducting a community reads program, and spark interest in local reading programs.
Is your library interested in conducting another local community reads, but you need funding and support materials? The Big Read is an excellent grant opportunity!
The Big Read grant recipients receive:
$2,500 to $20,000 to fund their project
Reader's Guides--many are available in Spanish
Teacher's Guides with lesson plans for middle and high school students.
Audio Guides
Publicity materials such as posters, banners, and bookmarks.
Training in working with partners, developing a PR strategy, and other topics to help you conduct your own community reads project.
Recipients must choose 1 of 30 titles available from The Big Read. The list of possible titles is at: http://www.neabigread.org/books.php
For more information go to The Big Read website: http://www.neabigread.org/
Application deadline: February 2, 2010 (if you receive this grant, your library would conduct The Big Read sometime between September 2010 and June 2011.)
Applications are online at: http://www.neabigread.org/application_process.php
