Subject: Books Published to Benefit Eastern Oregon Libraries

*Creative Writing Book and Regional Anthology Published to Benefit
Eastern
Oregon Libraries *

Two books have been published by Libraries of Eastern
Oregon
(LEO) with proceeds to benefit area public libraries.

                Celebrating eastern Oregon, LEO’s 226-page *A Sense
of
Place: An Eastern Oregon Anthology* is a collection of poems, essays
and
short stories by several dozen residents across the 15 rural counties
served
by the nonprofit.

The anthology portrays the many concepts of place and
reflects how the theme resonates in one’s experiences and thought.
The
collection includes 125 juried works selected from nearly 500 entries.

Lawson Inada, Oregon’s poet laureate, stated, “These voices rise
and
resound, rejoicing in the splendor of the land. Thank you, Eastern
Oregon!”

LEO’s *Writing Home: Notes on the History and Literature of the
Northern
West,* is a 67-page thought-provoking book intended to inspire persons
of
all ages to write from the experience of place. It was developed by
eastern
Oregon writing instructor and poet Rob Whitbeck. The book includes an
extensive bibliography for related reading.

Both books have a full color cover featuring original oil paintings by
nationally-recognized Fossil artist Daniel Robinson, featured on
National
Public Radio and art exhibits in Portland and Boston.

The anthology and writing book have been printed by Maverick
Publications of
Bend. Each book has a matte finish and read-able spine.

Proceeds from both books will be placed in a special
fund by
LEO to pay for community programs at libraries across the region. LEO
serves
public libraries in Baker, Crook, Gilliam, Grant, Harney, Lake,
Malheur,
Morrow, Sherman, Umatilla, Union, Wallowa, Wasco and Wheeler. Nearly
all of
the public libraries in the region are without resources in their
annual
budgets for community programs and several still operate at less than
$18
per capita per year - or less than the cost of one hardcover book.

The anthology is priced at $12.95 and the creative
writing
book at $9.95. Both are sold on line at the LEO website and through
several
public libraries in eastern Oregon.

Each book has been made possible through LEO’s “A
Sense of
Place” series of programs in the arts, sciences and humanities,
supported in
part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (www.imls.gov).

LEO serves public libraries in Baker, Crook, Gilliam,
Grant,
Harney, Jefferson, Lake, Sherman, Malheur, Morrow, Umatilla, Union,
Wallowa,
Wasco and Wheeler counties. For further information, please contact
