Part Time Systems Librarian

The Oregon College of Oriental Medicine seeks a motivated, creative, talented, and dependable, Part Time Systems Librarian. This one-year, grant funded position is responsible for the successful migration of OCOM bibliographic data and implementation of the new integrated library system on the Portland health library consortium catalog. This position is also responsible for ensuring quality cataloging and material processing to optimize findability and access. This position may also assist with special projects at the request of the College Librarian.
Requirements: An ALA accredited Master's degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an accredited college or university is required. Previous experience as a systems administrator is highly desirable; and experience with Millenium III System and WorldCat Local preferred. Previous experience cataloging and processing materials is required. Previous experience and/or training in an academic or medical library is highly desirable.
Salary: This is a grant-funded 0.5 FTE position that pays $20/hour and is eligible for benefits. Anticipated start date is February 1, 2010, 12-month duration.

Duties & Responsibilities: The person in this position works collaboratively with three law-trained reference librarians and several student reference assistants to provide extensive reference, instructional and research services for research-oriented faculty members and students in a technologically advanced information environment. Participates in reference desk rotation (including weekends and possibly evenings) and on-call shifts. Uses specialized subject knowledge and expertise to perform faculty liaison and collection development activities. Oversees the law library's access services including supervision of the Law Library Manager. Participates in departmental planning. Qualifications: MLS/MLIS and JD degrees from ALA- and ABA-accredited institutions; knowledge of current information technologies and publishing formats, database and Internet searching proficiencies and a mastery of basic legal research sources and techniques using both print and electronic materials; a strong service orientation; interest in working with an active research-oriented faculty; interest in new and emerging technologies; a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation; the ability to work in a collegial and cooperative environment; and excellent oral and written communication skills. Hires, trains and supervises 2.0 FTE classified employee staff and several part-time access services student assistants. Has primary oversight responsibilities for circulation, reserves, interlibrary loan, shelving and stacks maintenance, fines and billings and photocopier and printer maintenance. Carries out technical functions related to the UO Libraries automated system, including regular communication and cooperation with UO Libraries Systems and Access Services staff. Central Coordinator

Portland Community College (PCC) Library is accepting applications for the contracted position of Central Coordinator for an LSTA-funded project to complete the foundational work of developing a coordinated program of continuing education in the state of Oregon. The coordinator will work in cooperation with the PCC Library Director and the project liaison. The Central Coordinator will: 1) hire three regional coordinators to assist with this work; 2) design and conduct a statewide needs assessment to determine library-related continuing education needs in the state of Oregon; 3) develop a business plan for a sustainable model to deliver library-related continuing education throughout the state.
The Central Coordinator will work approximately 20 hours per week for 50 weeks, starting in February 2010, at a pay rate of $30/hr. This position will be based at the Sylvania campus of Portland Community College. The ideal candidate for this position will be well connected in the library community and will be skilled at project development and completion. The candidate will be coordinating the efforts of a team of colleagues in remote locations, and should have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Specific experience in conducting needs assessment and preparing a business plan is highly desired.
