Call for Poster Sessions:  Bringing the Immersion Program Back Home

Saturday July 11, 2009 3:30-5:30

ALA Annual Conference in Chicago 

Alumni of the Institute for Information Literacy Immersion Program are
recognized as leaders in teaching lifelong learning skills, improving
techniques for assessing learning outcomes and in creating environments
of discovery. The four Immersion Tracks are: Teacher Track, Program
Track, Intentional Teacher Track, and the Assessment Track.

The ACRL Immersion Alumni Program Planning Working Group is looking for
individuals or groups who have participated in the Information Literacy
Immersion Program to submit an application for a poster session. The
purpose of the poster sessions will be to provide an informal forum for
the exchange of ideas and research related to the Immersion experience.
Apply to share your successes and challenges at the 2009 ALA Annual
Conference.

Poster presenters will have 30 minutes to present after the 60 minute
panel session.

Application Procedure

Poster sessions will be refereed by the Working Group. We encourage
alumni to participate; refereed posters aid tenure track librarians with
promotion and tenure.  

Poster session topics might include but are not limited to:

*	How you applied your Immersion experience to transform your
teaching and information literacy programs;
*	How you sustained momentum and enthusiasm when you got back from
the Immersion program;
*	Significant learning experiences you gained from the program;
*	Demonstrated student learning outcomes through successful
assessment strategies;
*	Leadership roles you have cultivated in your library and campus
community as a result of participation in the Immersion Program.

Poster session proposals should include:

1.	Name(s) of presenter(s)
2.	Poster title
3.	Learning outcome(s) for viewers
4.	Location(s) and year(s) of Immersion Program attended
5.	Summary of poster content (150-200 words)

Criteria for refereed poster session acceptance include:

*	Originality, significance and relevance of the topic;
*	Development of ideas;
*	Contribution to Information Literacy research through a
theoretical or practitioner framework;  -OR-
*	Implications to research, practice, and/or Information Literacy
policy;
*	Opportunities to interact with the viewers delineated;
*	Strength of learning outcomes presented in proposal.

Poster proposals will be reviewed and selected by the committee. Send
proposals as an attached word document to  Betty_Braaksma at UManitoba.CA

The deadline for submission is April 13, 2009. Peer review of
submissions will be completed in April - May and notifications of
acceptance will be sent on or before May 11, 2009.
