The Library Resource Center at Mt. Hood Community College is accepting applications for a part-time reference librarian. This position provides reference services and collaborates with faculty librarians and other library staff on special projects. The librarian will be scheduled to work Saturdays from 8:00-5:00. These hours will be in effect starting Fall term, which starts September 21, 2009. The librarian will also be expected to attend in-service days, Monday and Tuesday, September 14-15, 2009. 
The minimum qualifications for this position are: ALA accredited master's degree (or higher) in Library Science or must be within six months of earning it; Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills; Ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, students and staff.
Please note: you must meet all of the stated requirements in order to be considered for this position. Prefer recent experience as a reference librarian in an academic setting.

Reference and Instruction Librarian

Clark College is currently accepting applications for a Reference and Instruction Librarian to provide services that support student success. This position is a one-year temporary, 173-day faculty contracted position from September 9, 2009 to June 18, 2010. Attendance is expected on all faculty work days (unless negotiated). This position may be located at Columbia Tech Center (CTC) or at Cannell Library, or both, and may vary during the academic year.
Position Responsibilities: Collaborate with classroom faculty to provide resource-based library instruction; Promote and teach information literacy to the college community; Provide reference service to students, faculty and staff on-line and in-person; Participate in continuing development of the library web site; Perform collection development for print and electronic resources; Collaborate with circulation staff and fill-in as necessary at the Check-out Desk at CTC.
Minimum Requirements: ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS, MSLS, MLIS); Working knowledge of basic reference sources and electronic databases; Computer literacy skills; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Desire/ability to work in a high energy, team-oriented library environment; Understanding of and commitment to the educational role of the community college; Ability to work with non-traditional students. 
Desirable Qualifications: Related college-level teaching experience; Experience with classroom and program assessment pedagogy; Interest in designing and delivering educational programs and materials; Ability to flex schedule as needed to accommodate class and library needs; Familiarity with electronic reference delivery systems (i.e., Elluminate, Chat, QuestionPoint); Knowledge in use of HTML; Knowledge of emerging information technologies.
Salary Statement: Starting salary is $43,932. Salary is for a 173-day contract; additional compensation is available for summer and moonlight teaching, and doctoral and vocational stipends. Start date is September 9, 2009.

General Statement of Duties: The Reference Assistant performs routine, basic reference and readers advisory duties at any of the public service reference desks (children's, young adult, and adult) as well as electronic and telephone reference. This member of the Readers Services Division will be the lead worker in providing assistance to the public on computer applications and problem solving. This position requires work throughout the week, primarily on weekends and evenings. 
Primary duties include, but are not limited to: *Provide timely and accurate answers to patron's reference, readers' advisory and referral questions using appropriate reference techniques; *Assist patrons in use of library materials, electronic media, and databases; Refer more complex and difficult questions to librarians. *Assist patrons with common computer applications (including Microsoft Office Suite), email and troubleshooting computer problems throughout the Readers Services Division. *Assist with or delivering computer skills instruction to individual patrons and in Library-sponsored classes.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of basic library systems and library resources, both print and electronic. Ability to locate library materials and use the library catalog; ability to operate personal computers and other library equipment; troubleshoot computer problems, and utilize commonly-used computer programs; ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks; ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms. Possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to effectively deal with the public. Possess strong leadership abilities.
