It's not too late to register for PLD's fabulous pre-conference, LISTEN UP: AUDIO BOOKS IN THE LIBRARY. If you can't get to ALA or PLA, this pre-conference is national conference worthy. And if you lend audio books in your library, you need to attend! Robin Whitten from Audiofile magazine presented at ALA last year and will cover "listener's advisory" (just how do you help a patron find just the right family friendly book to listen to on the way to Disneyland?) and what's new in listening technology and devices (Playaways, MP3 players, and more). Sam Wallin from Ft Vancouver Library will give us some lessons on podcasting from your library, and Jenny Berg from McMinnville will tell you all want to know about Library2Go and Overdrive. The day will finish with a special presentation by Recorded Books staff with the highlight being a presentation by nationally known and award winning narrator (and comedian) Johnny Heller. HarperCollins Media and Blackstone will be sponsoring the pre-conference with free giveaways and audio books. All for just $95.00! But wait, there's more... this includes a fabulous lunch and delicious breaks. So sign up now, Garrett is standing by to receive your registration. You can find out more at http://www.olaweb.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=85112

And what the heck, why not make a day of it? The Public Library Dinner will follow with the bar opening at 6:00 and dinner at 7:00. Marc Acito, nationally known author of HOW I PAID FOR COLLEGE and ATTACK OF THE THEATER PEOPLE, and entertainer extraordinaire (do you know he used to sing opera?) will be our special guest. After dinner he and his keyboardest Reece, will entertain us with a "book singing" followed by a "book signing." So don't delay, get in your registration now!
