Wow, this is fantastic news. This is the 2nd SIRS award that Oregon's
received that I know about-the Oregon Intellectual Freedom Clearinghouse was
honored a while back. Congratulations and appreciation to the Intellectual
Freedom Committees of OLA and OASL and ACLU. And every library that
presented a Banned Books Week event or display should feel they contributed!

"Celebrate the Freedom to Read" Oregon is the recipient of the 2009
SIRS-ProQuest State and Regional Achievement Award. For detail go to:

Congratulations to the Intellectual Freedom Committees of OLA and OASL and
the ACLU of Oregon on your statewide Banned Books Week project. Thank you
for putting together and distributing resources for academic, school, and
public libraries across Oregon to use to develop local Banned Books Week
activities. Celebrating Banned Books Week is an important activity for
educating people about intellectual freedom rights and the freedom to read.
I hope that this project continues to grow and that we will soon see all
Oregon counties participating!
