Subject: Harper looking for YOUR essays
Dear Oregon Booksellers,

Carl Lennertz at Harper is working on essay collections for each of the
regional booksellers associations, and says that he needs some essays
from and/or about Oregon, written by past or present booksellers or
librarians. He wonders if PNBA can help. Attached below is a mock-up of
the potential cover for the PNW version, in case seeing it will help you
imagine the project. [deleted due to listserv size limit]

Carl is looking for essays by booksellers, librarians, sales reps, or
even publishers, if they know the state and have a good
story/subject/presentation. He does NOT want stories ABOUT the bookstore
or the library, per se, but stories BY booksellers or librarians. He is
avoiding authors at this point, because they tend to have an audience.
The finished collection will be published by Delphinium, an imprint of
Harper, and will be promoted and sold in the indie market.

If you have any ideas, or know someone else who might be interested in
contributing, I would appreciate your passing this request along.
Inquiries, essays and ideas may be sent directly to Carl for his
consideration. Here are a few notes from Carl, about the specifics:
About 2,500 words and by Word doc by email to me only. If I can use it,
we?ll do an edit together to make it poifect.

As you?ll see in our model for this project, Ecco?s State by State, some
authors once lived in the state they wrote about, or do now, but some
were sent to the state for a first, fresh look. I don?t think you have
time for the latter, but really, anything goes. Likewise, I?m open to
pieces about parts of larger states.

NOTE: These are NOT about bookstore life; you?re Jane or John Citizen on
this, but of course, working in the book life as part of the piece would
be more than fine.

If you?d like a Word version of the Great Lakes Reader to get a feel for
the variety of themes, I can email that to you.
The book will have PNBA?s member store list in the back. Portion of
proceeds to ABFFE!

Email me if you have any questions: <mailto:carl at harpercollins.com>

Thanks for considering it.
Sincerely,

Thom
