*Description:*
Libraries welcome many job seekers and bring a lot of assets as potential
partners for the workforce system, from their ability to refer patrons to
One-Stop Career Centers for training and other services to offering computer
literacy classes or spaces for recruiting events. According to a recent
study sponsored by IMLS and the Gates Foundation, of the 30 million public
library computer users who had an employment-related purpose, 75 percent
searched for a job online, and half of those filled out an online
application or submitted a résumé. Recognizing the value of collaboration,
many state and local workforce leaders across the country have formed
partnerships with libraries. Joint activities include training library
staff in the resources available through the workforce system, holding
workshops on career exploration, job search and other topics for library
patrons, and sharing information and data. To support and encourage such
efforts, ETA and IMLS began a Federal partnership last year.

One important aspect of our Federal effort is publicizing state and local
partnerships. We are pleased to welcome representatives of two such
partnerships, one state and one local, to this Webinar. Illinois presenters
will discuss their state’s use of the Illinois workNet™ Web site to
highlight local workforce-library partnerships and library capabilities, as
well as ways in which the state encourages and supports local collaborative
initiatives. Presenters from Jefferson County, Colorado, will discuss their
distinctive approach to reaching customers—an “eTrain Mobile Training Lab,”
located in a renovated van that circulates around the county with print and
electronic resources, as well as a knowledgeable staff member.

We are excited to welcome to this Webinar all those who are interested in
the potential of workforce-library partnerships.
