The Alliance Research Interest Group (RIG) will be meeting on Friday, June 18 from 10 a.m.-12 noon at the White Stag building in downtown Portland. Location/directions at http://pdx.uoregon.edu/index.php?p=directions. More about the Alliance Research Interest Group at http://www.orbiscascade.org/index/research-interest-group.

PROPOSED AGENDA (please feel free to suggest additional items you’d like to discuss):

1. What are the most important areas of academic librarianship needing research?

The following comes to us from Joan Petit, Portland State University (thanks, Joan!). She sits on the ALA ACRL Instruction Section Research & Scholarship Committee: http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/about/sections/is/committees/research.cfm . The committee does several things, including maintaining the Research Agenda for Library and Instruction and Information Literacy: http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/about/sections/is/projpubs/researchagendalibrary.cfm .

The Agenda was created in 1980, revised in 2000, and they are in the middle of another overhaul. From the website: "It is hoped that this /Research Agenda/ will encourage researchers to experiment with a range of research methods, to revisit issues and focus on different variables, and to collaborate among institutions so that results are meaningful for wider audiences." The R&S Committee also maintains this page of research methods: http://www.ala.org/ala/mgrps/divs/acrl/about/sections/is/projpubs/bibliographyresearch.cfm

2. ACRL E-Learning offering: Know Your Users: Employing Ethnographic Methods in User Needs Research and Library Assessment, An ACRL e-Learning Online Course, August 2-20, 2010
Assuming that it is possible to get a group rate for this, A) is a multi-week course offering is the kind of thing people would be interested in? B) Is this particular course is of interest? and C) if so, where would we meet each week?

3. Catch up with the projects people have been working on

4. Brainstorm ideas for activities the group could undertake in 2010-2011
