Someone asked me if the AccessMyLibrary iPhone/iTouch app is for academic libraries, too. The version I mentioned below is just for public libraries. However, Gale is working on a version for academic libraries. When that is ready, I will announce it on the listservs.

See the last question on either FAQ for a bit more info.

Subject: [Libs-Or] iPhone App for Access to Gale Databases

Gale released an iPhone/iTouch app that allows public library patrons to access the Gale databases. It's called AccessMyLibrary (AML) and can be downloaded for free from the app store on iTunes.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/accessmylibrary/id342518632?mt=8

AccessMyLibrary "uses GPS to find public libraries within a 10-mile radius of the user's location" and gives them access to the Gale databases without having to authenticate. Users can bookmark their "home" public library and access it even when more than 10 miles away from it.

Currently not all public libraries are listed, but Gale will add the rest within the next few weeks. Feel free to contact Gale directly and ask for your library to be added to the AccessMyLibrary app. You will need to provide the following information about your library: name; address including city, state, and zip code; and any optional info like the phone number, website URL, and email address.

Also contact Gale if databases that your library subscribes to beyond those provided through the statewide contract do not show up in your library's AML listing.

Gale has a webpage with more information about the app and marketing materials to help libraries promote it.

There is also a K-12 AML app. It requires users to enter a password one time which is then good for an entire school year. The password is the same one used to access Gale via OSLIS. Relatively few schools are loaded at this point, and I am working with Gale to change that.
