[Libs-Or] JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: Technical Information Specialist (level II) to work at federal agency library (Corvallis, OR)

LAC Group seeks candidates for Technical Information Specialist (level I, II & III) positions to work at the library of a large, well-known federal agency. The Information Specialist's responsibilities include maintaining and overseeing library serials and circulation systems as well as equipment in the library or docket center and providing additional information services as needed. This position is subject to award. This position is available in several locations, please specify *which* city you are interested in your application.

Work Locations Available:


TIS Level I: Washington DC & Grosse Ile, MI

TIS Level II: Corvallis, OR & Duluth, MN

TIS Level III:  Washington, DC & Denver, CO


Responsibilities:
Levels I & II:

  *   Maintain the library serials and circulation systems and oversees the proper maintenance of material in the library or docket center
  *   Shelving new and returned library or docket materials, and collection shifting
  *   Maintain library or docket equipment in good working order such as microform reader/printer/scanners and photocopiers
  *   Duties may include providing information services such as answering ready-reference questions regarding documents, use of the library catalog, and referring persons requiring professional or technical librarian assistance to appropriate staff

Level III:

  *   Responsible for maintaining a collection of library and/or docket materials in a specific subject area, particularly the environmental and earth sciences
  *   Provide assistance in the use of reference sources, such as manual and automated catalogs and periodical indexes, to locate information
  *   Search databases and other computer indexes to locate information requested by patrons
  *   Responsible for responding to customer inquiries and customer service requests, from agency employees as well as the public
  *   Assemble and arrange displays of library and/or docket materials
  *   Draft correspondence on special reference subjects
  *   Compile and distribute lists of newly acquired items

Qualifications:

  *   Bachelor's degree in a field commensurate with the position description above AND at least one (1) year of experience with technical service activities in a library, docket center or similar information service center setting (progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year-for-year basis
  *   Working knowledge of standard desktop software such as Word and Excel
  *   Familiarity with OCLC or similar Web-based or software for copy cataloging, inter-library loan borrowing and lending and other professional library systems is preferred
