Oregon State Library 2012 Spring Lecture Series - Lecture #3

[Henry Hughes]The Oregon State Library is pleased to announce the third lecture for our Spring Lecture series. Our next lecture is Wednesday, April 11, in Room 103 from 12:00-1:00 and features Henry Hughes, Associate Professor of English at Western Oregon University. Drawing on his lifetime love of angling, literary history and poetry writing, Professor Hughes will read and talk about classic and contemporary poems and stories that involve the art of angling in a lecture entitled, "The Love of Angling." Professor Hughes's poems have been published in many prestigious publications and his first collection, Men Holding Eggs, received the 2004 Oregon Book Award. His second book, Moist Meridian, was chosen by Robert Pinsky as a finalist for the 2011 Oregon book Award. He is the editor of the recent anthology, The Art of Angling: Poems about Fishing. Please come visit us on April 11 as we celebrate National Poetry Month at the State Library.

Learn How to Market Your Gale Databases & How to Use Them to Support Library Programming

[Gale Logo]In March the State Library and Gale offered two webinar sessions to help Oregon library staff better understand how and why to use periodicals databases. We received much positive feedback about those and are now planning the next two topics. Finding eResources to Support Library Programming will show participants how to locate and share content and searches that can support library celebrations of specific months, like Women's History Month, holidays, and more. Participants will master the Gale bookmarking feature and learn tips for getting these tools to patrons and students. The one-hour trainings will be offered on April 3rd at 11am and again on May 3rd at 3:30pm Pacific. Interwoven will be two sessions about marketing your Gale databases, during which participants will learn how to order free promotional materials, discover outreach letters and press releases, and discuss using social networking and online media to promote libraries' offerings. Join us on either April 18th at 11am or May 8th at 3:30pm Pacific. These webinars are free, there is no need to register, and a PDF with access information is available on Northwest Central<http://www.nwcentral.org/finding-eresources-support-library-programming-gale-webinar> and under Training on the public/tribal<http://galesupport.com/oregon/> and academic<http://www.galesupport.com/oregonacad/> Gale support sites for Oregon users. If you have questions, please call (503-378-5011) or email<mailto:jennifer.maurer at state.or.us> Jennifer Maurer in Library Development at the Oregon State Library.
