LIBRARY AIDE II-CIRCULATION
BEAVERTON CITY LIBRARY

Two (2), 20-hour per week positions

SALARY RANGE:         $14.78 - $19.81 per hour

ABOUT THE JOB:  A Library Aide II provides efficient, professional, customer-oriented service throughout the library.  The successful candidates will work 20 hours per week at the circulation service desks and perform support functions when not working on the desks.  A friendly and welcoming manner, efficient and accurate data handling and the ability to problem solve independently and as part of a team are characteristics of the successful candidate.  Evening and weekend work is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

*         Perform circulation functions, check out library materials, register patrons for library cards, assist patrons with the use of library catalog and self-check machines;

*         Collect payment for fines and fees on patron accounts, including credit  card payments, enter payment into the circulation system and cash register;

*         Provide general, directional information to patrons; perform author/title searches and reserve items for public; respond to questions and explain policies and procedures;

*         Provide excellence in internal and external customer service, create a positive experience for customers through professional and courteous behavior and creative problem resolution;

*         Perform duties that provide support to circulation services such as preparation of morning cash deposit and setup, working holds reports and shelving of holds, overseeing "claims returned" and "snag" items and making item status changes.

TO QUALIFY:  Requires a high school diploma or GED and experience working with the public and exposure to clerical work.  Requires knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and library databases, English grammar, spelling and usage, ability to use library equipment, communicate effectively with diverse customers, lift heavy boxes of books and materials, work with patrons in a responsive and professional fashion.

SALARY RANGE:                     $13.43 - $18.00 per hour

ABOUT THE JOB:  A Library Aide I performs accurate and timely check-in and shelving of library books and materials for public re-use.  Prepare reserved library materials for patron pick up.  Open and close the library following established procedures. This position requires evening and weekend work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:  Shelve library books and materials in numerical or alphabetical order following established library procedures; check in and sort material; unpack courier delivery; process and shelve holds; create a positive experience for customers through professional and courteous behavior and creative problem resolution; produce an acceptable quantity and quality of work.

TO QUALIFY:  Requires a high school diploma or GED and experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position; knowledge of the alphabet, English grammar, spelling and arithmetic, ability to operate library computer systems.

Requires knowledge of the Dewey Decimal System and library computer systems; ability to understand written and verbal instructions and learn department policies and procedures and physical layout of the library; establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, volunteers and the general public; bend and lift books above head and from ground level, push and maneuver book carts and perform repetitive physical tasks for a prolonged period of time.
