Hi librarians,
If you haven't heard of Street Books, it's inspiring. (A
Bicycle powered lending library for people who live outside!) If you have
and you want to clean out your home paperback collection, this event is for
you.
Cheers,
Emily

And now, a word about what we've been up to:

We had a busy fall, beginning with our annual Street Books reception, on
September 13th. This year it was held at Bud Clark
Commons<http://streetbooks.createsend1.com/t/y-l-jhukidk-eihtihlg-s/>.
Street Books board member Amy Dennis provided homemade cornbread, beans and
salad, and Street Books patron Mark Hubbell did a reading from his favorite
Ray Bradbury story. It was a lovely turnout, and we thank everyone who gave
their time and energy to make it happen. There are a few exciting raffle
items left from the event, so please see the bottom of this newsletter for
details.*
Street Books founder Laura Moulton traveled to New York City in November to
accept an Innovations in Reading award from the National Book Foundation.
The award is given each year to organizations around the United States who
make reading & literature more accessible to underrepresented communities.
She also had the opportunity to give a presentation about Street Books to
an audience at the Ford Foundation. It was a great honor, and a chance to
spread the world about Portland's unique street library.
In December, we had a nice write-up in the Portland
Tribune<http://streetbooks.createsend1.com/t/y-l-jhukidk-eihtihlg-g/>by
Julia Silverman.
We are not currently operating weekly library shifts through the wettest
part of winter, but look for our shifts to begin in late spring/summer.
There are plans to expand to three shifts per week, and to cross over to
Portland's east side. More on that soon.
*If you've read this far, you're ready for a prize, and here's what's
available:

Portland Walking Tours -- 2 Tickets
Portland Center for the Performing Arts -- 2 Tickets

10 donors will receive one of the above prizes (no guarantees, but indicate
which you're interested in when you donate). Information about donating is

Thanks again for your support, and we wish you all the best in 2013.
