On-call Public Services Assistant - Teen Room

This on-call paraprofessional performs a variety of ready reference duties in the Public Services section of the Library and assists in the Teen Room. A qualified candidate will be able to assist the Public Services Supervisor with maintenance of the library's collection of books, music, DVD's, and other materials; monitors and assists customers with public computers; and provides ready reference and readers' advisory services. Graduation from a four year college or university (or equivalent coursework) with a minimum of two years related experience working in a public library which ensures basic knowledge of public library philosophy, practices and procedures, current trends in library services, popular literature and teen literature, as well as basic reference materials and resources. Applicants should have experience using automated library systems and computer applications, and experience using computers to conduct reference and literature searches and on-line database searches. Bilingual Spanish/English is desirable. Schedule varies; up to 19 hours per week, includes weekends and evenings. $17.71 per hour. The successful candidate may be required to undergo a skills assessment and must pass a thorough background check.

Project Ready to Learn Coordinator (Contractor)

The Ready to Learn Project Coalition is seeking qualified proposals to contract with one individual for a 12-month project providing skilled coordination for a multi-agency, community-based kindergarten readiness program serving students birth to age 5. Funds for this project are available through a Library Services and Technology Act Grant. The project area covers the counties of Umatilla, Union, Grant, Baker and Wallowa in eastern Oregon. Coalition members include six public libraries, the InterMountain Education Service District and the Oregon College Savings Plan. A predominate portion of the work will occur face-to-face in the Pendleton area. The contractor must possess a valid Business License prior to beginning work. Compensation includes all mileage and travel expenses. The scope of work includes providing overall project coordination in fulfillment of the grant objectives; organizational and administrative assistance to the Project Team and Work Groups; selection and coordination of Field Staff; report writing; developing content for early learning newsletters; supplemental grant writing and implementing a project marketing campaign.

Queens College, City University of New York, Graduate School of Library and Information Studies (GSLIS) invites applications and nominations for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in the area of Youth Services. GSLIS is the only publicly supported American Library Association accredited school of library and information studies in the metropolitan New York City area. The GSLIS currently has 12 full-time faculty and offers a broad curriculum. In addition to its M.L.S. degree it offers a 30 credit Certificate of Post-Masters Studies in Librarianship, a 15 credit Certificate in Archives and Preservation, a 12 credit Certificate in Children's and Young Adult Services in Public Libraries, and three programs for the preparation of New York State certified School Library Media Specialists. The GSLIS has a large (350+) and highly diverse student body, only 10% of whom are full-time. Applications must be submitted online.
