*FREE!* 06/25/13 Build Staff Buy-In for Volunteer Engagement
(Rescheduled)<http://nwcentral.org/build-staff-buy-volunteer-engagement-rescheduled>
Is
your library open to engaging volunteers in new ways? Often one of the
biggest challenges to a new model of volunteer engagement is the resistance
of paid staff. The attitudes and fears of our co-workers prevent us from
expanding the work that volunteers do. But, if you've never worked with
volunteers before, it can be scary. In this webinar we'll discuss
strategies for working with paid staff to engage volunteers. We'll cover
what you can do to alleviate some of those fears, strategies for working
within a Union environment, and how you can train and support your
coworkers as they become responsible for managing volunteers.
*FREE!* 06/25/13 Data-Driven Libraries Part 3: Decoding Data to Plan for
the Future<http://nwcentral.org/data-driven-libraries-part-3-decoding-data-plan-future>
Data-driven
decision making is creating large pools of data around which public
libraries are trying to define everything from overarching strategies to
granular collection development strategies. Although the analysis of this
data is often left to third-parties, some libraries are taking the step of
hiring their own data analysts to help administrators decide what the data
means, why it matters, and how best to present it to other stakeholders.
*FREE!* 06/25/13 The Chemawa Indian School of Salem,
Oregon<http://nwcentral.org/chemawa-indian-school-salem-oregon>
Explore
the visual and documentary history of Oregon's Chemawa Indian School, the
oldest federal Indian boarding school still operating in the U.S., and
conclude with the screening of a short film made by Chemawa students in
2012 in collaboration with the 1491s, a Native American comedy sketch team.

*FREE!* 06/26/13
Using Census Data to get
Grants<http://nwcentral.org/using-census-data-get-grants>
The basis for any successful grant proposal is objective evidence that a
vital community need exists. This is why the best American fundraisers are
intimately familiar with the US Census Bureau web site, including American
FactFinder and mapping tools. This workshop is intended for those who either
are new to the US Census site, are confused by its new format or haven’t
had time to learn about the wide array of data and services offered at the
site.
06/28/13 Servant Leadership in Your
Library<http://nwcentral.org/servant-leadership-your-library> Servant
leadership can change the dynamics of a library--large or small--by
cultivating strong loyalty from both employees and library users. Servant
leaders focus outwardly and work in partnership with their staff and
communities.Through exercises, group discussion, real-world stories and
personal reflection led by professional library trainer Linda Bruno,
preconference participants will develop their servant leader persona. Linda
has presented for ASCLA at previous conferences, and is top-notch in both
the content and delivery methods for her trainings. When you sign up for
this event, you'll get an excellent return on your investment thanks in
large part to Linda's outstanding work.
