[Libs-Or] How to circulate book with loose inserts? (S. by JJ Abrams)

Our copy of S. circulated a grand total of 5 times. (Insert frowny face here).
We just added a barcode and spine label and called it good.
Our copy of Griffin & Sabine remains fully intact. Then again, that only circulated 9 times. (Double frowny face).
On the other hand, The Dragonology, Pirateology, etc. books have been ravaged.
Those, we simply cannot keep as an entire package.

As a reader of S. (it's a fantastic book, by the way!), I can say that it's not necessary to freak out about the inserts too much. They are fun, and add to the illusion of the book being a unique, found object, but the main appeal of the book is in the dual narratives going on: the plot of the novel and the dialogue by two readers in the margins of it. Even if all the inserts were lost completely, it would still be a great read. I'm sure that your patrons will appreciate the chance to read it! Thanks to all of you who found ways to get it into your collections.

This was a huge challenge to Technical
Services and did seem like some kind of evil joke to trap libraries.
Where can we order the library edition with each item tipped into
place? Ha! Ha! We numbered each loose item and put the
corresponding number on the page where the item had been found and put all
the items into a large pocket at the back of the book. We scanned the
"S" cover and created a jacket for the book, covering the
"library" labels and "incorrect" cover and discarded the
box. We also told the selector that she may not ever order anything
like that again :o) Technical Services rules!
