The OLA Intellectual Freedom Committee has selected *Senator Ron Wyden* as
the recipient of the 2014 Intellectual Freedom Champion of the Year award
in recognition of his forceful and sustained campaign to protect the
privacy rights of individuals from government surveillance. The award was
announced at the OLA conference last month. This week, OLA
president-elect Candice Watkins presented the award to Senator Wyden's
office during a trip to Washington, D.C. for National Library Legislative
Day.
Senator Wyden has emerged as one of Congress’s most forceful opponents to
NSA surveillance. He was one of only ten senators to vote against the
re-authorization of the USA Patriot Act in 2006. Senator Wyden's
consistent message has been that security and liberty are not mutually
exclusive. Learn more about Senator Wyden’s record on the Intellectual
Freedom Committee website.

congratulate him on receiving this award and thank him for his sustained
support for privacy!
