Reach Out and Read Oregon Program Assistant

Reach Out and Read: Reach Out and Read is an evidence-based nonprofit organization of medical providers who promote early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. Reach Out and Read partners with nearly 5,000 program sites and distributes 6.5 million books per year. In Oregon, Reach Out and Read has approximately 80 program sites and serves approximately 60,000 children annually. Objectives of the Position: The Program Assistant is pro-active, organized, detail-oriented, and flexible. The assistant provides support to the program team and coordinates the administrative functions of the Reach Out and Oregon program. S/he coordinates trainings, prepares materials, organizes data, keeps program status tracking tools up-to-date, and assists with a variety of other logistics for programmatic, development, communications, and office support. The Program Assistant must demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, and maturity. Must be willing to travel to ROR site locations up to once a week.

Responsibilities also include working at the circulation desk, providing reader's advisory, reference assistance, computer instruction, committee activities and other dirty jobs. Requires meticulous attention to detail and excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Must have training or experience with Dewey Decimal System, and Marc records and be able to understand and apply AACR2 and RDA cataloging rules. Bachelor's degree is required. Demonstrated equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will also be considered. MLS degree including coursework in library cataloging, and experience with Evergreen ILS system are preferred. $13.39/hr, 40 hours a week.
