Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon invites applications for the Head
of Special Collections and College Archivist at the Aubrey R. Watzek
Library. Lewis & Clark is a selective liberal arts college with graduate
programs in Education, Counseling Psychology, and Law. We seek a dynamic
leader to build and shape a highly successful program and offer
opportunities for professional growth and advancement to the successful
candidate.

Watzek Library has an active and growing Special Collections and Archives
program (http://specialcollections.lclark.edu/) with historical and
literary collections of national stature. Signature collections include the
William Stafford Archives and the Literature of Lewis & Clark Expedition.
The unit actively acquires and processes print and digital collections,
mounts physical and digital exhibits, publishes scholarship through its
Berberis Press, sponsors book arts activities and designs programming
around the collections. A particular emphasis is the engagement of
undergraduates with the collections through research, instruction,
internships, and practicums. Two-and-a-half full time staff support the
program in close collaboration with the Digital Initiatives unit and others
in the library. The collections are housed in three physical spaces within
the library including a climate-controlled, high-security rare-books room.
Digital collections including Oregon Poetic Voices are mounted in Omeka and
custom software platforms.

The Head of Watzek Library Special Collections and College Archivist will
oversee Special Collections and Archives in Watzek Library including the
supervision of departmental staff. As the College Archivist they will
manage archival collections to meet institutional needs and comply with
records retention policies. They will act as a steward of signature
collections including the William Stafford Archive and the Literature of
Lewis & Clark Expedition. They will develop unique collections that align
with College interests by collecting, processing, organizing, preserving,
and making accessible collections of rare books, manuscripts, archives,
photographs, digital files, and other rare and special materials. They will
lead programming, pedagogy, and outreach related to the collections within
the College and beyond. They will support teaching and scholarship at the
College by organizing collaborative initiatives with faculty that involve
collection-building, research, digital scholarship, exhibits, and book arts.
