Dear Oregon Library Community:

The 2015 Annual Report for the Statewide Database Licensing Advisory Committee (SDLAC) is now available: http://www.oregon.gov/osl/LD/technology/sdlp/SDLAC%202015%20Annual%20Report_final.pdf

The SDLAC is a committee of the LSTA Advisory Council, which advises the Oregon State Library Board of Trustees. Our primary responsibility is to advise on matters related to the Statewide Database Licensing Program including: drafting requests for proposal (RFP), evaluating proposals, making database licensing recommendations, and when necessary, advising on the allocation of costs to participating libraries.

The committee's work in the past year focused on drafting a Testing and Skills Building Resource RFP and evaluating proposals from LearningExpress and Gale/Cengage Learning. LearningExpress scored higher and the committee recommended including two additional LearningExpress modules, Job & Career Accelerator and Computer and Internet Basics, in the renewal. The Oregon State Library approved the recommendation and the new contract will begin in November.

At the April 2015 meeting, Diane Sotak of the University of Portland, was elected as incoming committee chair. SDLAC members also recognized outgoing chair Stephen Cox, from Salem Keizer Public Schools, for his service.  In the coming year, the SDLAC will plan for upcoming contract renewals and explore options for improving access to, and awareness of, statewide database resources.

The committee is comprised of members representing different library constituencies. You are encouraged to contact your committee liaison with feedback on how the statewide database program is meeting the needs of your constituency.
