    ARL is now accepting applications for the 2016 cohort of the ARL Career
Enhancement Program (CEP). Master of library and information science (MLIS)
students from racial and ethnic minority groups, who have successfully
completed a minimum of 12 credit hours (or will complete 12 hours by
December 31, 2015) in an American Library Association (ALA)–accredited
program, are encouraged to apply for this enriching fellowship experience.
Internships for this cohort will take place during the winter/spring 2016
academic term.
Program Benefits
The ARL Career Enhancement Program, funded by a grant from the Institute of
Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian
Program, offers each fellow:

   - a paid internship in an ARL library during winter/spring 2016 with a
   stipend for internship work of up to $4,800 (240 hours x $20 per hour);
   - the potential for academic credit for the practical experience (fellow
   is responsible for arranging this program component with her/his MLIS
   program);
   - a mentoring relationship with a professional librarian while on campus
   for the internship;
   - support for travel to and attendance at the ARL Annual Leadership
   Symposium (held during the ALA Midwinter Meeting, January 7–10, 2016, in
   Boston, MA); and
   - connections with ARL member libraries and assistance from ARL staff
   with networking during the job search process.

 Applicant Eligibility
Eligible applicants for the ARL Career Enhancement Program must:

   - be accepted into an ALA-accredited library and information science
   program;
   - be a member of a racial/ethnic minority group as described by the US
   Census Bureau or Statistics Canada; and
   - complete a minimum of 12 graduate-level credits in library and
   information science prior to beginning the internship.

 Selection and Institutional Match
The ARL Career Enhancement Program has a unique process for selecting and
matching fellows with host institutions
<https://t.e2ma.net/click/xwxei/pydqgn/pmg82c>. Each host designates a
staff member to serve on the coordinating committee. The committee will
evaluate the entire applicant pool, select participants, and then enter
into dialogue with other coordinators about the institution that is best
positioned to create a rewarding internship experience for each fellow.
Priority will be given to candidates who are located in the same geographic
regions as the host institutions or who are willing to relocate to one of
those areas for the duration of the internship. (Limited support for
relocation may be available.) Also, additional host institutions may be
recruited for exceptional applicants.
Potential host institutions for the 2016 cohort of the ARL Career
Enhancement Program include:

   - University of Arizona
   - University of California, San Diego
   - Columbia University
   - University of Kentucky
   - University of Michigan
   - National Library of Medicine
   - University of Washington

 Applications
Applications are being accepted until 11:59 p.m. eastern daylight time
(EDT) on Monday, September 7, 2015, and should be submitted online
<https://t.e2ma.net/click/xwxei/pydqgn/5eh82c>. For more information about
the program, the application process, timelines, and host institutions,
