Oregon Humanities is seeking Oregon public library partners for a new
statewide series of facilitated public conversations about end of life
decision-making called *Talking about Dying*.
These one-time, ninety-minute conversations will provide participants the
opportunity to reflect on what stories and cultural, spiritual, and
emotional influences shape their thinking about death and dying, and to
hear different perspectives and ideas from fellow community members. They
will also serve to build awareness of the importance of making decisions
about the end of life in an informed and proactive manner, and will
strengthen participants’ sense of community support and collective
engagement on these issues.
Oregon Humanities anticipates scheduling thirty conversations across the
state, between July 1, 2015 and January 31, 2016. We plan to sponsor five
programs in each of the following six regions of the state: Northern Coast,
Willamette Valley, Gorge/Central, Eastern, Southern, and Southern Coast.
These free programs will be geared toward public audiences (ages 15+).
For each conversation, Oregon Humanities will sponsor:
- Facilitator honoraria, mileage, and meals
- Outreach support materials
- Suggested readings and resources
For each conversation, public library partners will provide:
- Space for the program
- Local PR/outreach efforts to generate an audience of at least 10
individuals
- Onsite support (i.e., arranging chairs, distributing reading list)
- One night of lodging if the facilitator travels more than 100 miles
one-way*
If your public library is interested in hosting a *Talking about Dying*
program in your community, please fill out the online interest form
<http://oregonhumanities.org/online-forms/view.php?id=17714> no later than
May 20, 2015.
For more information, please contact Annie Kaffen at (800) 735-0543, ext.

For this statewide series, Oregon Humanities is working in partnership with
the Cambia Health Foundation, a national leader in improving end of life
and palliative care.
**Facilitators are located in Portland, Corvallis, Bend, Medford, and
Ashland. Oregon Humanities will work to ensure that their travel is
efficient, in order to mitigate lodging requirements on the part of library
partners. If providing lodging is prohibitive, please let us know.*
