Hello again, colleagues!
**Please excuse any cross postings**
If you have five minutes to spare by this Wednesday, May 13, please
consider sharing your thoughts and experiences relating to developmental
education and information literacy in this brief, confidential survey
<http://www.libsurveys.com/loader.php?id=e8cf567c06580bc6849766b617f15113>.
We are seeking input from all librarians and educators at all levels --
K-12, community college, and university-level -- to help provide a
"snapshot" of how educators in this region are currently involved in these
efforts.
Why? Because my colleague Mary Kelly-Klein, Instructor of Academic Literacy
at MHCC, and I will be co-presenting a program, "Developmental Education
Redesign, Acceleration, and Information Literacy," at the upcoming
Information Literacy Summit, hosted by the Information Literacy Advisory
Group of Oregon (ILAGO) on May 16, 2015, in beautiful Hood River.

If you're not sure what "developmental education" means and the current
statewide redesign efforts, you might find helpful the report for
“Developmental
Education Redesign: Decreasing Attrition and Time to Completion at Oregon’s
Community Colleges: A Project of Oregon’s 17 Community Colleges and the
Department of Community Colleges and Workforce Development
<http://education.oregon.gov/Documents/HECC/Student%20Success/10-8-14/4.0.ORDevEdFinalReport.pdf>."
In this report, the developmental education paradigm is described as
"entering students whose knowledge and skills are at the pre-collegiate
level, enroll them in a sequence of courses designed to build their
knowledge and increase their skills, make them college-ready through these
courses and then finally allow them to enroll in college-level classes."
For this upcoming IL Summit program, we invite attendees to share their own
experiences and brainstorm best practices related to developmental
education redesign, accelerated courses, and IL. Here, again, is the survey

Please share your thoughts by this Wednesday, May 13, so we are able to
include a summary of responses at the annual IL Summit on May 16, 2015. We
will also share results on the list-serv following the conference.
Thanks in advance for your time!
Sincerely,
Jennifer
