*JOB TITLE: *On-call Library Circulation Assistant/Librarian

*Qualifications & Job Requirements*

Library Technician Certificate and/or Information Sciences Masters
Degree preferred
-extensive library circulation experience may substitute as preferred

Minimum one year of library experience as part or full time staff
-
Minimum six months of library circulation experience required

Familiarity with midwifery/women’s health/medical subjects preferred

Strong writing and presentation skills

Able to follow directions, policies, and procedures

Able to create and follow organizational systems

Able to communicate fluently in the English language

Able to alphabetize files and documents

Able to use computer systems, including basic knowledge of and ability
to use Internet, office, and database software/systems

*Physical Demands*
Based on the U.S. Department of Labor's classification of Physical Demands,
this position is primarily a *sedentary* one. Computer use is required and
job holder must be able to type accurately and see the computer screen, as
some programs require sight to operate. There are extended periods of
sitting and use of computer keyboards and exposure to video display
monitors. Additionally, phone and in-person communication occurs daily, and
both speaking and hearing ability are necessary. Because the library is
shared, public space, job holder must be comfortable working in plain view
of the public and staff members.
Many obligations require *medium work* as described by the US Department of
Labor – such as lifting boxes of materials and moving chairs (“exerting up
to 20-50 lbs of force occasionally, or up to 10-25 lbs of force
frequently”) Occasional lifting and moving of library materials and
equipment may be up to 40 pounds, bending, stooping, kneeling, and/or
squatting. Must be able to climb on step-stools or short ladders and reach
heights up to 9 feet. Minimal walking may be involved.
*Environmental Conditions*
Job holder will not be exposed to extreme environmental conditions. The
demands of this job are primarily intellectual and interpersonal.
*Duties*
Duties of the On-Call Library Assistant/Librarian position fall under the
supervision and direction of the Head Librarian and Library Director

Provide warm and welcoming customer service
-
Manage day-to-day operation of the library
-
Opening/Closing procedures
-
Student Copier procedures
-
Student computer assistance and daily maintenance
-
Circulation duties: check items in and out
-
Create and maintain patron records
-
Shelve materials
-
Shelf reading
-
Provide Reference and Research Assistance, if able, and/or refer to
other libraries/librarians
-
Assist library patrons with locating and utilizing materials and
resources
-
Collect money for copies and library cards
-
Other duties as assigned by Head Librarian
