Buenos d?as a tod at s:

In the last REFORMA Oregon chapter?s meeting on Saturday, October 10 @ Redmond Public, the attendees, which formed a quorum, voted to apply to be part of OLA as a Round Table.
The following are reasons to join (thanks Jane Corry and Annie Lewis!):

? A stronger voice in OLA to better support librarians who serve Latino communities
? Opportunities to provide input at OLA Board meetings, especially surrounding decisions that may impact librarians serving Latinos
? Expanded leadership opportunities for Latino library staff and librarians
? The opportunity to collaborate with other OLA units more effectively
? Access to the infrastructure of OLA.
? Use of the OLA memberclicks tools including Go To Meeting
? The opportunity to connect with the larger base of OLA members and the ability to recruit them to join REFORMA
? Access to those providing service to Spanish speakers who are not members of REFORMA.

Below, you can read the requirements to apply for membership. I will need a minimum of 25 members? names. Please, if you?re a OLA member, send me your name so I can send the list to request Round Table status.
Thank you so much and have a great week. Nos vemos,

Mart?n

The USAGov team at the US General Services Administration is looking for reference librarians who work in public libraries and connect people to government information and services to participate in a research study. They are looking for both large and small libraries from different parts of the country that serve different populations.

They want to learn more about the kinds of questions the public asks about government services, the outcome of these questions, and what, if anything, gets in the way.

To learn more about the study and/or to sign up to participate, please fill out this form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/156XZvqYyR7jd3Ha5CrMqtwqsLh0Nud3zc5vnKrapNRc/viewform>.

Please join the OLA International Roundtable Horner Exchange committee in congratulating our 2016 Horner Exchange delegates:

   -

Jian Wang (translator) is an Electronic & Continuing Resources Librarian
   at Portland State University.

   -

Richard Sapon-White is Head of Cataloging and Metadata Services at
   Oregon State University.

   -

Veronica Vichit-Vadakan is a Systems Librarian at the Oregon College of
   Oriental Medicine.

   -

Victoria Heidushchke is our alternate, should one of the delegates be
unable to go. She is the Library Experience Coordinator at Oregon State
   University.

The OLA IRRT Horner Exchange committee looks forward to hosting four delegates from the Fujian Provincial Library in late spring of 2016.

Our delegates will travel to the Fujian Province in late October or early November. The delegates will be joined by Mary Kay Dahlgreen, State Librarian at the Oregon State Library, and Rosalind Wang, retired, Multnomah County Libraries and Portland State University, during part of the Exchange visit, so we'll have quite an impressive group of Oregon librarians visiting the Fujian Province next fall.

The Horner Library Staff Exchange Project is an exchange of library staff between the Fujian Province, China, and Oregon, for the purpose of sharing professional knowledge about library and information science. It was established through a generous gift by the late Dr. Layton Horner to the Oregon State Library and continues through a relationship with the Oregon Library Association International Relations Roundtable <https://ola.memberclicks.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=335>.
Our international partners are the Fujian Provincial Library and the Fujian Library Association. Fujian is Oregon?s sister province in China, and the Fujian Provincial Library maintains a sister library relationship with the Oregon State Library. The 2013 blog <https://2013horner.wordpress.com/>
and 2010 blog <https://horner2010.wordpress.com/> provide a look into the most recent trips to the Fujian Province libraries.

Congratulations delegates!

Hi everyone,

CSD is having its Spring Workshop on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Salem Public Library. Our theme is Hands-On School Age Programming and we need presenters!

Instead of traditional verbal or PowerPoint presentations, we want to have 5-10 stations where attendees actually make stuff: squishy circuits, candy science, tie-dye shirts, etc. CSD/registration fees will cover the cost of supplies.

If you or someone you know does an awesome program that elementary school kids love, e-mail me with details by December 31, 2015.

Thanks,
Barratt

Good morning, folks, and my apologies for intruding on your Wednesday and any cross-posting duplication in your Inboxes.

Every now and then, infrequently, a Washington-related matter comes along where ALA can have a real and lasting impact by taking an ?all hands on deck? approach. This is one of those times. Specifically, ALA is a partner in a large nationwide coalition effort (www.savecrypto.org) to obtain 100,000 signatures in 30 days on an official White House "We the People" petition. We are asking the President to firmly oppose requiring device makers and encryption designers to weaken their privacy protections to allow the NSA and others a "back door" into all of our communications.
He is close to making that declaration, and we hope this drive will convince him to do so.

Please take a moment to sign the petition, retweet the message on twitter (linked below), and encourage anyone and everyone you can efficiently reach to sign and retweet too. We have 9 days and just under 15,000 signatures to go to reach that critical 100,000 mark, which ? by the terms of the We the People project ? will **guarantee** a substantive White House reply.
This one?s worth a real push.

Thanks for your help! Here's the link to the Tweet on ALA?s main Twitter
page:

Small libraries are often challenged to find the staff, skills, or time needed to meet growing community needs and demands for digital literacy training. Volunteers can help you meet these needs! Learn strategies from two successful statewide projects eager to share tools and curricula to help get volunteers ready for technology training in your small or rural library. California's Get Involved: Powered by Your Library<http://www.getinvolvedca.org/> provides libraries with tools to recruit, train and retain skilled volunteers. And Guiding Ohio Online<http://www.guidingohioonline.org/training> has created curricula for volunteers to deliver digital literacy training through computer classes and one-on-one computer assistance in libraries of all sizes. Project staff will share their expertise and experience to help you build the program that is right for your community.

This webinar is hosted in collaboration with the Association for Rural and Small Libraries<http://arsl.info/>.
