I know that not many of you are medical librarians or live close by but thought I'd still send this out as an opportunity to consider. For those of you who are not members of the Medical Library Association volunteering for a set amount of hours does offer an opportunity to check out the conference for a free day. See below for more information.
Have you dreamed about ways you can participate more fully in MLA's Annual Meetings? Do you dare to volunteer in a way you may not have tried before? You can contribute to the success of MLA's 2017 Annual Meeting in Seattle by volunteering and ensuring that attendees have a quality experience and that things run smoothly. There are ample opportunities and options from which to choose:
Assembling Annual Meeting Bags
There is such thing as a free lunch! We are in need of 20-30 people to help assemble the Annual Meeting bags beginning at 1pm on Thursday, May 25th at the Convention Center. There are about 1500 bags that will need to be stuffed with the meeting program, call for papers, guides, etc. This project takes about 3-4 hours total, and MLA provides lunch to the volunteers. It's a fun way to kick off the meeting in a casual, informal setting. After you volunteer, you get to be the first to check in for the conference and receive your badge and bag.
Hospitality Booth
You can be a local expert! Volunteers are needed to staff the Hospitality Booth during the hours the conference registration area is open. You can choose a minimum of two 2-hour blocks, any date and time for the duration of the annual meeting. The Hospitality Booth is often abuzz with activity and people asking for information about things from conference details, to restaurant information, or directions to the light rail station. You don't have to be a Seattle local. There are usually at least 2 people at the booth at a time, and there is information available for booth volunteers to refer to on myriad topics.
Placement Center/Member Resource Room
Prefer something a little more behind the scenes? We are in need of 2 volunteers per shift to help staff the Job Placement Center/Member Resource Room. Ideal shifts are two hours each, and the room is open from Saturday - Tuesday. Volunteers are asked to monitor the room and the equipment, as well as direct visitors to appropriate resources and information.
