Hi! I proposed a panel presentation for OLA 2017 on "Mentoring to Build the
Next Generation of Leaders" and it was accepted! I'm now seeking panelists
to participate. Have you been a formal or informal mentor? Have you been
mentored in a formal program or informally? Do you feel like you have
advice to offer either to mentors or people seeking a mentor? If so, please
email me (meredith.farkas at pcc.edu) about possibly joining our panel.

I'd love to get a diverse group together of mentors and people who have
been mentored from different areas of librarianship and ideally not only
people who have participated in the OLA Mentoring Program.

Here is the abstract I submitted:

*Mentoring to Build the Next Generation of Leaders*

For early-career librarians who want to be leaders, finding the right path
toward leadership development can be challenging. Instead of pricey
leadership institutes, one affordable and sustainable method of developing
new leaders is through mentoring. Mentoring can happen formally or
informally; through established workplace or association programs, or
simply by meeting someone who wants to take you under their wing. Mentoring
not only supports the professional development of early-career librarians,
but also enables experienced leaders to share their knowledge and insights
with the next generation of library leaders, ensuring important knowledge
transfer in our profession. This panel of successful mentors and mentees
will look at the value of mentoring in leadership development, discuss
their experiences in mentoring relationships, and will share practical tips
for mentors and those seeking a mentor.

Thanks for considering!

Best wishes,
Meredith
