Substitute Upper School Library Assistant: Potential for Permanent Employment

The Catlin Gabel School in Portland has an immediate full-time opening for a substitute Library Assistant in the Upper School Library.  This position has the potential, for the right candidate, to become a permanent, full-time position with benefits.  Substitute Library Assistants work on an as-needed basis.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
·         Genuinely enjoy working with teenagers
·         A commitment to great customer service, and a respect for the borrowing privacy of our library users
·         An active interest in working in a productive, energetic school library, with library experience a big plus
·         Able to positively establish and maintain behavior expectations in the library
·         A general understanding of library circulation (check in, check out) procedures (we can train you in the library-specific tasks)
·         Ability to use a library catalog, and assist students and adults in locating materials in the library
·         Willingness to perform clerical tasks such as checking in new periodicals and handling the mail
·         Cooperate in school-wide supervision of students and ensure students’ safety
·         A college degree or some college preferable
