Thank you for posting this Erica,
This was nice to hear from the ALA, and if you didn't hear Governor Kate
Brown's statement, I'd like to share that as well:
"We are living in divisive times and it is more important than ever that we
celebrate each other's diversity, not shun it. Oregonians have shown time
and again we do not support discriminatory policies, and I will ensure all
students, regardless of who they are, have the opportunity to learn in a
safe environment.
I stand by the Oregon Department of Education which remains committed to
ensuring all students are provided an education regardless of gender
identity, race, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, disability,
or other protected classes. Regardless of federal guidance, Oregon law
continues to provide protections for all students." (K. Brown, personal
communication, February 23, 2017)
And she goes on to link the Guidance to School Districts
<http://www.ode.state.or.us/groups/supportstaff/hklb/schoolnurses/transgenderstudentguidance.pdf>
that was issued in May of last year.
Thanks,
Elsa Loftis
