Expertise, competencies and careers are the topics of discussion for the
Library 2.017 web conference coming up on March 29. Brought to you by the
San Jose State University School of Information in partnership with the
American Library Association, this free conference is a must-attend for
students and professionals alike.

Participants will learn about: 

.       The skills, knowledge, traits, and expectations needed to support
all types and sizes of libraries and their communities in the future;

.       The competencies necessary for information professionals to deliver
critical services and resources and to thrive in today's and tomorrow's
society; 

.       How library and information science schools and professional
development programs can prepare library professionals for these new
competencies.

 

Thought Leadership

Setting the tone for the conference, the opening keynote panelists

educational programs and employer expectations. Dr. Julie Todaro, ALA
president, will moderate the lively discussion and will also deliver the
closing keynote address.

.       Dr. John Bertot, Professor and Associate Provost for Faculty
Affairs, University of Maryland 

.       Valerie J. Gross, President & CEO, Howard County Library System

.       Dr. Julie Todaro, 2016-2017 President, American Library Association;
Dean, Library Services, Austin Community College

 

Following the one-hour opening keynote session, participants will go into
breakout rooms for the crowd-sourced online presentations. At the conclusion
of the concurrent sessions, attendees will join the closing keynote session
on Todaro's ALA presidential initiative, "Libraries Transform: The Expert in
the Library."

 

Join the Discussion

What skills and competencies do you believe are important for today's and
tomorrow's librarians? What positions will librarians fill over the next few
years? Please consider sharing your experiences and thoughts. Presentations
should be no more than 25 minutes, including time for audience questions.
All sessions will be held using the Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing
platform, and training will be provided. The deadline to submit proposals is
