From Emily Sheketoff, ALA Washington:

In the wake of the Presidential budget release last week, we’ve been receiving increased calls and emails containing questions about National Library Legislative Day 2017. Below are a few FAQs – please feel free to send this out to your listservs, etc, to help get the word around.

Is there still time to register for National Library Legislative Day 2017:

Absolutely! The deadline for registering online is April 8th and after that we will only be able to accept registrations at the door of the event. Registration information is available at ala.org/nlld<http://ala.org/nlld>.

What about the hotel?

Our room block at the Liaison Hotel closes on March 31st, so make your reservations soon if you want to stay at the Liaison. Please note that our block only includes Sunday April 30th and May 1st and does not extend to May 2nd. Hotel information is also available on ala.org/nlld<http://ala.org/nlld>.

Are there any funding options available?

The WHCLIST award<http://www.ala.org/advocacy/advleg/nlld/funding> is still accepting submissions! This award is available for non-librarian advocates who are first time NLLD attendees. Details are available on our website – the deadline for submissions is April 3rd.

Is this event open to the public?

It is! We do not limit the size of state delegations, and everyone who wants to support libraries is welcome to join us.

Who is speaking at National Library Legislative Day this year?

Our keynote this year is Hina Shamsi<http://www.districtdispatch.org/2017/03/nlld-keynote-announced/>, director of the ACLU National Security Project. In addition to issue briefings with the ALA Washington staff and a press and media training with press officer Shawnda Hines, the team from The Campaign Workshop will join us for an hour of advocacy training. Christian Zabriskie, Executive Director of Urban Librarians Unite, and Jennifer Manley, Managing Director of Prime Strategies NYC, will also be leading a 30 minutes breakout session called “The Political Dance.” More will be announced soon!

I can’t make it to D.C. in May – how can I participate in National Library Legislative Day?

Register for Virtual Library Legislative Day<https://goo.gl/forms/3xFDLO3T0FQppuaF2>! We’ll send you a reminder to take action, along with a link to the live webcast of our keynote and issue briefing on the morning of May 1st. We’ll also send you the talking points, give you access to email templates, and other resources to help you take action.

Is there something I can do right now?

Visit the ALA Action Center<http://cqrcengage.com/ala/home> to see our current action alert around IMLS and stay tuned for the upcoming Dear Appropriator campaign.
