For the UW Husky alumni out there who may not be on the I-School’s email list… please note that the Incredible Mae Benne passed away recently at the age of 93. She was a great teacher and mentor, a lovely and kind lady. She helped generations of librarians understand and enjoy children’s literature and inspired many to service as YS librarians.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of beloved Librarianship Director and Professor Mae Benne. Mae passed away at Horizon House in Seattle, she was 93. Mae taught children's literature, storytelling and children's library service at the UW library school from 1965-1988.

Gifts in Mae's memory can be made to the Mae Benne Endowed Scholarship<http://engage.washington.edu/site/R?i=WP-vxR-DaZ6PN2mrSnpA1g>, a scholarship established by Mae's lifelong friend Ursula Meyer to honor Mae's extraordinary career and dedication to the field of Librarianship. Mae herself contributited to this endowment to support scholarships for MLIS students who plan to work in public libraries.
