The State Library is partnering with Veterans' Legacies<http://www.veteranslegacies.com/> and OregonASK<https://oregonask.org/> to help them get the word out about their story collecting project, The Mighty Endeavor. Veterans' Legacies' goal is for Oregon to be the first state in the nation to collect information on all of our WWII veterans. If successful, stories will also be collected and preserved from veterans of other wars.
What can libraries do to help collect and preserve stories of WWII veterans?
A little bit:
* Distribute bookmarks promoting the project (public libraries will receive bookmarks in a week or two in the next Ready to Read Grant mailing)
* Familiarize yourself with The Mighty Endeavor<https://www.themightyendeavor.com/> project and encourage patrons to participate on their own
Some more:
* Partner with a local veterans organization and host an event at which local veterans share their stories and encourage attendees to participate in the project
* Create a display with materials patrons can check out to do the research component of the project to encourage patrons to participate
* If you have a maker space/digital media lab or circulate video equipment, promote the use of these library resources for filming interviews of WWII veterans
* Partner with a local organization and let them use the library's meeting room to implement The Mighty Endeavor curriculum<https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5993c80849fc2b2af1e8c88a/t/59c45eb8d7bdce82dc922ca3/1506041541984/Mighty+Endeavor+Curriculum+9_1_17.pdf> as a program series
A lot:
* Present a training on how to use library resource to research WWII
* Partner with a local news outlet and have them present a training on conducting interviews
* Present a training on filming and editing for people participating in the project
* Partner with a local middle school, high school, or community college to implement the entire The Mighty Endeavor curriculum<https://www.themightyendeavor.com/educators/> as a program series
